Christmas time in Rockefeller Center is a spectacular event
The most popular and frequented tourist attraction in New York City during the holiday season is the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Christmas time in Rockefeller Center is a spectacular event, between the statuesque ornate tree, the ice skating rink, and other festive decorations adorning the area. Rockefeller Center truly looks like something out of a fairy tale story.
The tree this year comes from Suffern, NY which is about 35 miles northwest from New York City. The tree is a Norway spruce weighing 9 tons and standing at a staggering 71 feet high by 40 feet wide. It takes 24 electricians to decorate the branches with 30,000 lights on five miles of wires. This will be the first year that the tree will be topped with a Swarovski designed star. The star is 9 1/2 feet in diameter with 25,000 glimmering crystals.
The official tree lighting will be on November 30th, a two hour televised event called “Christmas in Rockefeller Center”. There will be an all star lineup of guests and performances. Also, the world famous Radio City Rockettes will perform.
If you are in New York City during the holiday season, make sure to visit Rockefeller Center’s Christmas tree.
